I have three lines that converge in Montgomery Co, AL.I really would like to develop better data on all three. They are tangled so bare with me.
John Harold GASKIN and Jane MORPHIS settled in Montgomery Co. between 1820-1830.He was born abt 1792 in St. James District, SC and died between 1840 and 1850 in Montgomery Co, AL.She was born abt 1796 and died between 1840-1850 in Montgomery Co, AL.Some of the children indicate that they were born in Florida on later censuses so the family may have gone there first.
John and Jane GASKIN had the following children that I've identified: Right H, b. about 1824 in FL Thomas, b. about 1829 in AL Lydia Olive, b. April 26, 1830 in AL Francis, b. abt 1834 James W, b. abt 1834 Rebecca J., b. abt 1840 in AL
Mary SWEAT married Wright Harold GASKIN, John's brother. She was born about 1795, possibly in Beaufort Co, SC and died in 1872 in Rock Creek, Santa Rosa Co, FL.Wright was born about 1784 in SC and died in 1854 in Rock Creek, Santa Rosa Co, FL.She is the likely daughter of William SWEAT and his first wife, name unknown. He settled in MOntgomery Co, AL around 1830.Wright and Mary were married about 1815 and had the following children: John, b. abt 1817 in SC William, b. March 9, 1821 in SC Lucretia, b. abt 1825 in FL James Millard, b. abt 1830 in FL Seth J, b. Nov 14, 1836 in FL
Mary's father William (likely, not confirmed) was married twice. The first wife is unknown to me but I think I've identified two of the children by this marriage, Mary and Whittington. His second wife was Martha MORPHIS, possibly sister to Jane above and possibly daughter of Bashford MORPHIS.They had two children, one son named James E. and the other is a girl but I don't have a name.
Bashford MORPHIS is in Montgomery Co in 1830 and no where to be found until 1787 when he is in Johnston Co, NC.There are a lot of MORPHIS in TN so I'm thinking he came to AL through TN.He appears to be the only older MORPHIS in Montgomery Co, which is the reason I think he is Jane and Martha's father. The three possible children I've identified are Jane, Martha and James, b. bet 1790-1800.
MORPHIS is my maternal DNA line so far so I'm more than a little interested in pushing it back.Lots of holes in the above, so ANY help appreciate.I share information freely. My website at www.roadhosmetofl.com has some more information than above.
