I am looking for some biographical information on John Sevier Rhea, son of Archibald Rhea, second husband of Catherine Sherrill Sevier (1781-5/31/1827-Tuscumbia, Ala), who was a daughter of Gen. John Sevier, first Governor of Tennessee. He was the second child of this marriage, the others being: 1] James White Rhea (died in Galveston,Tx), 3] Ann Eliza Rhea, (1/1/1809-9/7/1887) 4] Mary Rhea(4/18/1812-1858), 5] Jane Rhea. He was in the Tennessee Valley of Alabama area from at least 1826, when he was given a power of Attorney to receive his mother's share of the land claims of Gen.(Gov) John Sevier, in the amount of 287 1/2 acres in Franklin County, Alabama. He was definitely in Decatur, Alabama from 1834 to maybe the early 1840's. He was in Texas by 1846.
I am not related to J.S. Rhea, but am researching him for a book on the history of a house he more than likely built in Decatur in 1836, before bankrupting, or nearly so, in 1838-39. I have the records of various deeds in Decatur, Morgan County, Ala, that he and his wife, Sarah P. participated in, and would be glad to share them with a descendant who can help me with this research.
Thank you in advance for your time. Bill Tankersley
