Pickens County, Alabama was named for General Andrew Pickens of Revolutionary War fame.
Below is a brief History.
Andrew Pickens was born near Paxtang, Pennsylvania in Bucks County on September 19, 1739.
His parents had immigrated from Ulster, Ireland.Moved to Long Cane Creek in Abbeville
On February 14, 1779, he and a force of 300 militia defeated a force of 800 under British Colonel Boyd at
Kettle Creek, GA.
