Several other researchers have also been kind enough to inform me that Harriet (maiden name unknown) Griffin (b. 1819, d. 4/29/1855) is buried in the Martin Cemetery, Ethelsville, Pickens Co., AL. Considering the information available at this time, I speculate the Guyton children listed in the Griffin household in the 1850 census are most likely Harriet’s children by a previous marriage to an unknown Guyton. He may have died or they may have divorced. I would like to identify him.
Are you implying that Lazarus Griffin, guardian of the Guyton minors, was a sheriff in Pickens Co., AL?
I would appreciate any information on this Griffin/Guyton family that you or any other researcher in the area might have time to look up at the courthouse.
