Pat, I may have jumped to an unwarranted conclusion that your ancestor was Elisha Lacy. After reviewing my records, I find that there were other early Lacy's in Sumter who may or may not have been related to Elisha, although they seem to have lived not far from Elisha Lacy.
William H. Lacy, Samuel Lacy, David Lacy and Nicholas Lacy voted at Sumterville (also in north end of county) in 1834.Austin H. Lacy voted there in 1836 and there is a court record on file in the courthouse related to the settlement of his estate.George Lacy also voted at Sumterville in 1836.
There are also records of Elisha Lacy voting in the county, but he voted at nearby Gainesville.
There is a tombstone in the Bethel Chapel Cemetery in the north part of Sumter County (near Sumterville) for Capt. Elisha Lacy, "Died July 9, 1862. 70 yrs 1 mo & 23 days".Also a tombstone for Caroline M. Lacy, "Consort of Elisha Lacy, Feb 28, 1792 -Jul 29, 1847".
There is some record in the courthouse of the settlement of the estate of William H. Lacy, and there is a will and estate settlement record for Elisha Lacy.
