I am looking for proof of the parents of Mary Burt born December 31,1813 in GA and died on December 28,1878 in Calhoun, AR. Researchers say that her parents were John Burt and Lucy Huff of Edgefield District, SC. John and Lucy Burt died in Lowndes County, AL around the mid 1850's. Mary apparantly met up with her future husband, Daniel Dees born July 13, 1810 and died February 15, 1897, when their families lived in Conecuh County, AL during the 1820's. Daniel and Mary migrated to Talladega County, AL about 1837 and then on to Columbia County, AR in the early 1850's. They are both buried in Antioch East cemetery outside of Magnolia, AR. Mary Burt Dees had a sister, Martha, who married Richard Nicholas Newton and they both died in Sumter County, AL. It has been erroneously recorded by Robert Mathis and James Claude Burt that Mary married Richard Newton. These men seemed to have gotten the sister's names reversed. Martha is the correct name for the wife of Richard N. Newton. The 1850 census record of Sumter County verifies this. The descendents of Mary Burt and Daniel Dees are eligible for the DAR through John Burt, Sr. and the Colonial Dames through the lines of John Hansford and Edward Folliott. The Folliott line is descended from many kings of Europe and documented in the College of Arms book of England. This line goes all the way back to William the Conqueror and Charlemagne. Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.
