Don’t know what you already know, but I got on Ancestry.com and explored a little for you – looked at historical records and family trees.Hope this helps:
Edward W. Payne, born 1860, was the first born child of Francis Marion Payneborn about 1842 and Nancy Elizabeth Hoed or Hood born about 1841.(1860 Walker Co. Census Francis age 18, Nancy age 19, Edward age 7 months and no other children listed).
On the 1900 census for Walker Co. AL Edward William Payne is age 39 and is a farmer and widower.Children listed in the home are Minnie Lee 16, Arminda 14, Sarah M. 12, Greely Louis 11, Alice L. 8, Cora 7, Bertha Mae 4, and John W.age 8 months.Given John W.’s age of 8 months that would mean that John’s mother had died within the past 8 months (1899 to 1900 time period). Some family trees give John W.’s mother’s name as Matilda Ann Davis. Some family trees indicateMinnie Lee and Arminda are the same person as give that name as Arminda “Minnie” Lee, born 30 Oct 1883 and died 8 Feb 1945 in Jefferson Co AL who was married to William Leonard Brasfield in 1902.Also some family trees list another child for Edward W. Payne as son Francis Marion “Bud” Payne born 1881 Walker Co AL and died 1944 Selma AL.It appears that William’s daughter Cora was born in 1893 in Cordova, Walker Co AL and she married Victor Andrew Clements (he died in 1957 in Bham AL)
On the 1910 Parrish, Walker Co AL census Arminda is still living with her father Edward but her last name is listed as Kemp and she has a daughter Lerona M. age 7 months. No husband given for Arminda – did she later marry Wm Brasfield or are Arminda and Minnie two sisters?
By the 1920 census Edward William Payne (still widowed) was living in Jasper AL with his son Greely Louis and his wife Callieand their kids Kenneth 9, Grady 6, Evylin 4, Dorothy (newborn). There is an Edward W. living in Jefferson Co AL on 1930 census and a widower – may be your Edward.
It appears Edward William’s father Frances Marion Payne who was born 1842 died in 1896 at Toadvine, Jefferson Co AL (near the Jefferson-Walker Co line).
