Simeon Tucker is in a line that I am researching for a friend, Lois. Her line descends from Simeon Tucker to his daughter, Nancy C. Tucker who married Joshua Muriel Sims. One of their children, Jermenous Sims, had a daughter, Monta Sims, who married Harold Steinmeier. Lois is the daughter of Monta and Harold and the great-great granddaughter of Simeon Tucker.
We have been trying to figure out who Simeon Tucker married and when. We have found several public ancestry trees that list Simeon as having two marriages, one to a Mary Polly West (or Lovett?), born abt. 1827, and one to an Ollie Duke or Ollie West. We're not sure if Mary Polly and "Ollie" are the same person or not. We have found references for Ollie listing her birthdate as May 1833, or 1827, and married in 1838 or in 1845, but we have not found any "legal" data such as birth/death/marriage records. We have also found several death dates for Ollie - 22 May, 1927 and 10 Dec 1870. If you look in the cemetery records for the West-Lovett Cemetery, you will see that there is a headstone for a Mary Tucker reading:
"TUCKER, Mary wife of Simeon Tucker 12/10/1870 age 53 years".
The 1870 census for AL lists Simeon as living with his wife, Mary, and two children, Andrew and Sarah in Marion, Alabama. In 1880, he is listed as a widower living with his daughter, Nancy C. Tucker. Interestingly, Nancy is not in the 1870 census. Simeon died 18 Feb 1899 and is burried in the Old Union Cemetery at Winston.
In 1884, an Ollia Tucker, formerly Ollia West (Polly West? although this would not make sense if Mary Polly West Tucker died in 1870) applied for a land grant as part of the pension under the Treaty of April 24, 1820. An Ollie Tucker applied for a civil war widower's pension as Simeon Tucker's widow in May of 1899, a few months after the listed death date for Simeon. I also found an Ollie Tucker in the 1900 Alabama Census for Black Swamp, Winston, AL. She is listed as illiterate, age 71, widower, birth date of Aug, 1829. I searched the 1920 and 1920 census data for Winston Co, looking for Ollie Tucker, but could not find her. If she died in 1927, as some people say, she should have appeared in both these census takings.
Clearly, there is a lot of confusion, so we would be really interested in any "hard" data that you might have found. You mention that Ollie was born in Fayette, Georgia. There is also a Fayette, Alabama! How do you know where she was born? and how did you find her death date?
