I am trying to find out where a child living in Clay County would have been taken that was turned over to the state in the late 1920's. About 1929 James, Henry and Sister Cobb were turned over to the state by their grandmother, Ada Alice (Rickman) Cobb. This was done while the mother of the children, Sylvia Merry Myrtle Cobb, was visiting Sister's father. This is what I have been told happened after they were taken.
James, refusing to be adopted, ran away from the orphanage and every family they tried to place him with.
Henry was adopted by Ernest and Ruby Pearl (Stairs) Forrest. His name was changed to James Henry Forrest. The 1930 Census shows him with his adoptive parents. Although the age is either incorrect or he changed the year of his birth to join the military in WWII.
Sister is the one I am looking for. she was born about 1927. From stories passed down in the family, she died at the orphanage from hitting her head in a fall. I do not know her real name. My goal is to find her name, date of birth and date of death. I would also like to find where she is buried. Hence the need to know what orphanage the children were placed in.
From what I understand records around this date can be non-existent. At best sketchy in information. But I really would like to find her. She deserves to be remembered.
