A new website for the Boone County Historical & Railroad Society is now available online.
The site, located at http://www.BCHRS.orghttp://www.BCHRS.org , includes the latest information related to the Society as well as the Boone County Heritage Museum, which the Society sponsors and supports.
The site is designed to give local residents as well as out-of-town viewers and potential visitors a more detailed insight into the Museum and the Society's work.
Included on the site is an About BCHRS section, detailing the Society's mission, directors and staff, and information on membership and meetings. A second section is devoted to the Heritage Museum. This includes a brief history of the Museum, its location, hours of operation, admission, parking, and more. A detailed list and images of books currently for sale at the museum is also included.
A News section of the site provides not only the goings-on at the Museum, but also includes an Archive of news from years past.
The Society's trademark quarterly publications, the Boone County Historian & Oak Leaves, are also detailed on the site. Current issues and several years worth of back issues are cataloged and indexed, along with their cover images. The objective is to allow for easier research and content searches of the publications for those who may wish to order back issues.
The site's homepage includes over 50 images of local history that are randomly rotated, as well as a "This Day in World History" content feed.Another unique application on the homepage is "This Day in Boone County History" - a new interesting Boone County historical fact is featured each day, with most of the content compiled from resources currently available at the Boone County Heritage Museum. The daily rotation is designed to help promote awareness in the area's rich history, and encourage visitors to come to the Heritage Museum to learn more.
An online Guestbook is also available for visitors to leave comments if they wish.
The Museum itself includes thousands of records, photographs and other items for genealogists and history buffs, many of which are planned to be included on the site in the coming months.
Thanks for checking out the site, and be sure to visit the Museum when you are in the area!
