Does anyone know if inmates of the Poor Farm who died there were buried in a cemetery on the same ground? My great-grand uncle Joseph Richard Stephens was born in 1852 and was listed as an inmate in the 1930 US Census. He had been there two or three years. His wife Minerva died in 1927 and in 1828 Joseph's sister Arletha Owen who was living in Texas made reference to "Brother Joe" being on the "Poor Farm".There seems to be no official date for his death, but most researchers believe it was late 1930 or in 1931.His wife's grandfather was Jessie Casey of Newton County. Her mother was Elizabeth Casey. Her father was Zachariah Beckham. The Casey Family Association has done on excellent job over the years in researching and verifying research results. Their records show that Minerva died in 1927 and is buried in Hopewell Cemetery, Boone County. There is no registered grave marker for her.The fact that her husband was indigent and had to go to the poor farm after her death might explain her absence of a grave marker.
