Thanks for your response. Here is a bit more on my Mathis ancestors:
My grand-father, John McConnell Mathis's father and mother were both born in Tennessee. (per TX census, 1900) I don't know their names, but his father seems to have been a Confederate soldier, and was killed in the battle of Chickamagua. His three sons, John M., William, and James were born in Carroll County, AR prior to this. I think John, (b. 1857) was the oldest of the three brothers. His mother might have married again because, in addition to his two brothers, John M is reported to have had one step brother and one step-sister.I have no knowledge of their names, birth dates, or place of birth.
Herein lies my puzzle.Who were my paternal g-grandparents?
I would love to get any clues anyone might be able to provide on this.I have records of one branch of of the family John M's wife, Triphene Gregory, back to one of herggggg-grandfathers, Theodore B.Myers, (born before 1680). It would be great if I could find out something about at least a few of John M's ancestors.
Thanks.I would be more than happy to share what I know.
