I am a descendant of Caleb Cox, b. 1825 in MO. He married Elisebeth Pierson/Pearson about 1843. I don't know where they married. Her father, Benony Pierson was listed in the 1840 Census in Johnson County, AR. Benony paid taxes in 1845 in Polk Co., AR. My Caleb was probably the Caleb who paid taxes in Polk Co., AR in 1846.
There was another Caleb Cox, b. 1827 KY, son of Joshua and grandson of William Cox, Sr. and Martha Cantrell, who were listed in 1840 in Sevier Co., AR, but he was married to Sarah Jane Pirtle. This William Cox, was later a large land owner in Fannin Co, TX.
Thomas Cox married Martha Murry in Jackson Co., MO in 1833. Thomas (b. 1816, KY) and James Sylvester who was married to Deborah Ann Cox (b. 1821 in MO) were listed next to each other in 1840 in Sevier Co,(later Polk)AR census with William Cox m. Sarah Cantrell on the line below them. Descendants of this William Cox do not believe Caleb is from his family. However, there is an unidentified male in both 1830 Lafayette Co. MO and 1840 Sevier Co.(later Polk)for this family that would fit Caleb's age. I think there is a good chance that Caleb, Debbie and Thomas are either siblings or cousins, but I can't locate a set of parents for any of them.
In 1850 families of Caleb, Thomas, and James Sylvester were living in Limestone County, TX. Caleb and the Sylvesters lived in Austin, Travis Co. in 1860 thru 1878,
Widowed, Caleb married my G-grandmother, Eliza M.J. Burleson in 1877 and they moved to Brown County, TX. William Marion Cox, m. Mary Catherine Forsythe, who was a son of the William Cox living next to Thomas and James in Sevier Co. AR, lived in Brown County at the same time.
