HUBBARD, SMITH, PRATER and BRACKETT families of Sevier County, Arkansas
My GGG-Grandfather Robert A. Hubbard, who was born about 1815 in the Pendelton District, South Carolina, was married to Lucinda SMITH in Anderson County, SC in 1841. Robert Hubbard was a shoemaker by trade.
Robert and Lucinda Smith later moved to Gordon Co. Georgia. In 1850 he is shown to have three children, Warren age 5, Lenard Franklin age 4, and Caledonia age 3, he had another child Jane latter born. Then in 1860 he is in Cherokee County, Georgia.
I have strong reason to believe he is from the line of Cherokee HUBBARD's that are associated with the PRATTER and BRACKETT families. He seems to always migrate with them and my mother always tole me we was of Cherokee Blood on the HUBBARD line. Two of Robert Hubbard's grandsons registered as Indian in World War I. Many of the Prater and Brackett and Smith family came to Etowah County, Alabama with the Hubbards in the 1800's.
His son Lenard Franklin Hubbard married Mary Bartlett, (she was the daughter of William Blake Bartlett and Catherine Williams) and around 1868 the Hubbard and Bartlett families came to Etowah Co. Alabama.
Roberts son Lenard Franklin HUBBARD settled in Etowah County but Robert after the loss of his wife Lucinda SMITH never seemed to settle down and went to Texas to visit family? His daughter is living in Lamar County, Texas in 1880 and Robert is shown living with her. He seems to travel back and forth between Texas and Alabama several times. Somewhere around 1890 Robert Hubbard went to Texas and traveled through Arkansas - but never got to Texas and no one ever knew what happened to him?
Many of Robert A. HUBBARD and Luncinda SMITH's decedents still live in the Etowah County, Alabama area today.
Also many of the PRATER, and BRACKETT families also settled in the East Texas and Southern Arkansas area along with the HUBBARD's. Some of these families were removed from Georgia on the "Trail of Tears" I believe this may have led many other family members to migrate west to be closer to their family.
We can find no record of Robert A. HUBBARD's or Lucinda SMITH's past or their parents, but believe they are associated with the Prater and Brackett families of Georgia.
It just appears that Robert A. HUBBARD and Lucinda SMITH just fell from the sky and appeared one day in Anderson County, South Carolina. There are several SMITH and HUBBARD families in the Pendelton District, and Laurens and Edgefield area of SC, but I have been unable to make a connection to any of them.
There were several SMITH's and HUBBARD's from South Carolina, that also came to the Gordon, Hall, Lumpkin and Cherokee Counties, Georgia area. Any information any one may have on the SMITH or HUBBARD family would be greatly appreciated.
Hopefully someone out there will have the missing link to help us locate our Ancestor's family. Thanks for your help, Danny Skillman, Altoona, Alabama, E-mail-- email@example.com
