The Murder of Frank Rorie
I am seeking information on the murder of Frank Rorie, the brother of my grandfather, Samuel Wayne Rorie. I have been unable to find any newspaper account of it or any investigative reports on it. It took place in Stone County, Arkansas, in 1908, somewhere around Timbo. Since a railroad station was involved in may have been between Fox and Timbo where I've read there was a station or possibly between Timbo and Mt. View where I'm sure there was a station. The sketchy details I have from my family is that Frank was riding in a buckboard driving a team with an unidentified lady that he and his brother-in-law, Johnny Stevens, were taking to catch a train to get away from her husband. Johnny Stevens had originally been the driver but switched with Frank and was riding a horse along side the buckboard when the ambush occurred. Johnny was married to Frank's sister, Belle Rorie, and Frank was married to Johnny's sister, Omah Stevens. I have never learned the name of the woman or the name of a suspect who may have had a motive to kill either Frank or Johnny - as some believe Johnny, not Frank, was the intended victim. Several years later in 1921 Johnny Stevens was murdered by Floyd Avey. The story was covered in the Batesville Guard (Arkansas) on March 12, 1921. Is there anyone who knows what happened in the Frank Rorie murder case and who the two unidentified persons were? So far the only clue as to the woman's name is Nancy Paralee Stevens (Johnny & Omah's cousin) who left her husband around this time and was never heard from again - but there is no proof that it is the same person. My name is Kenneth Rorie and my email is [email protected]
