Henry and his younger brother Payton/Peyton Brittain/Britton served in the Civil War in Ar. Peyton Smith Brittain was burned out and after the war he moved his family back to District 3 Rutherford Co.,Tennessee. He was married to Lucy France Lawrence, their childeren, Martha A., Peyton A., John C., Frances A., Mary A. and 2 childeren who died shortly after birth. Lucy d. 1878 and in 1882 Peyton M. Elizabeth J. Harris in Tn her parents James and Eliza J.Harris both b. Tn.
Pleasent Henry Brittain/Britton served as a Judge at the end of the war 1866-1868 Van Buren Co Clinton, County seat. His wife was Sarah Ann Neal, b. Tn she was not well after the war and the family moved back to 3 district,Smyrna, Rock Spring,Rutherford Co., Tn. before 1870 where they stayed until after 1880 when they moved back to Morganton and and he and many of his family are buried in Colony Cem.
