Ann, I'll see what I can find for you. White settlement was not allowed in this area prior to 1828. That doesn't mean no one was here, of course, but if your folks were white settlers, they weren't here legally in 1824, and so you probably won't find much in the way of records. The men from Ft. Smith were supposed to run settlers off at that time. Missouri did cut itself off from Arkansas when it bid for statehood, but I believe this part of the state was still officially Indian Territory in 1824. I'll go by the library this weekend and see whether there are any records relating to your family.
