I am researching the Wesley GODDARD family, who lived in Washington Co., Arkansas from at least the mid-1850's.
Wesley was born about 1809 in Sullivan Co., Tennessee.About 1831, he married a woman named Nancy (maiden name unknown). They had the following children, all but the last born in Tennessee: Nancy M., married Henry Hampton STINCIPHER or STONECIPHER. Asa B., b. 20 Dec 1832; became a minister. Emandethe, b. abt 1833; married a MABERRY, then a GILBERT. Mary Ann, b. 13 Oct 1835, md. Benjamin SKINNER. George Columbus, b. 14 Feb. 1836, md 1st Mary C. MARRS (1859), 2nd Lucinda EARHART (1864). Jesse W., b. between 1838 and 1842, md. Mary Jane MARRS Harriett, b. abt 1843, md. Abraham RAINWATER. Francis Marion, b. 4 April 1844, md 1st Elizabeth Sarah CHANDLER, 2nd Anne E. (maiden name unknown). Dallas James, b. abt 1846, md. Abigail J. MARRS Timothy H., b. between 1848 and 1850 in Illinois, md. Drucilla PRIDEMORE, d. before 1886.
In 1867, Wesley married Vinnie MARRS, no children.Wesley's 3rd marriage was to Frances CUMMINS in 1868, no children. His 4th marriage was to Susanna WHITAKER in 1871, two children: Arthur W., b. 1873 Reuben Eugene, b. abt 1874
Susanna had died by 1880 when Wesley was listed with the 2 boys on the census as a widower.I've been told Wesley was in Texas in August 1886 visiting his son Asa when he died and that he was buried in the "city cemetery" in an unmarked grave.
Wesley was one of the 13 children of Thomas GODDARD and Elizabeth SHRITE.Some of Wesley's siblings were also in Arkansas, such as Jesse, Nathaniel and possibly more.
The Martin GODDARD who had the saddle shop in Washington Co. was Wesley's nephew.
I would be very interested in exchanging information with anyone connected to the GODDARD or MARRS families.
