I am currently at a stop and in need of some help. My grandmother was Lillie Mae James 10/2/1897 - 11/29/1984, married abt. 1921 to Charles Matthew Smith 7/22/1901 - 1/29/1974. Mae's brother was John T. James 1/22/1901 - 1980. I can not locate anything definitive on who her parents were. All I can recall is her mother may have been a Ida Mae and her father may have been a "Neely." All lived in Northern White County near Independence County and Pleasant Plains.
Like so many others, I can remember the stories she used to tell from her family about hiding out the outlaws Jesse and Frank. The difference is, our family had portraits that were kept tucked away in the attic, "out of shame" she used to say.
My search is two-fold. One, I need the ancestory information. Secondly, I am trying to substantiate her stories and verify these portraits. Any help is greatly appreciated.
