I'm sorry I have not been back.I remember reading your first few statements and when I saw the "order the death cert" I stopped and checked to see if I had it, and discovered that I did not have it.So I ordered it and when it came, it only had "English" for father and "unknown" for mother. The death certificate gives her parents' and her place of birth as South Carolina. The informant was my grandmother Ruby Blackwell, her daughter.
Now I want to review the rest of the comments you made and information you requested.I want to make sure I look through everything very closely because you spent a lot of time working on this and I want to show you that I am appreciative of all that work.
The 1930 census reflects that my great grandfather, William Joel Blackwell had passed away (1924) and that Emma was living with her son Grover Cleveland Blackwell and his family.Emma died before the next census, in 1936.Her age listed here as 73.
The 1920 Census - looking closely (I already have it) I realize it says Emma's parents were both born in Arkansas.I had South Carolina for both of their births, so have changed that.I'll look at the other census records closely for this same information.Emma age here is listed as 65.
The 1910 Census gives Emma's parents birth place as USA.Her age here is listed as 52.It seems to me that she didn't know what year she was born, or someone else was supplying the information.
The 1900 Census gives Emma's birth place as Alabama. This is an error on the part of either the census taker or the person supplying the information. On all other census records she is shown as being born in Arkansas, including the information she supplied to the government in her pension application for widow's benefit.
The 1880 Census age listed as 20, born in Arkansas. This was the first census as a married woman.
The 1870 Census was before Emma was married. She was in a home with the Robert T Shell family.Looking at the census sheet itself, shows they also had a neighbor boy living with them, age 1 (they had their own son age 1), the neighbor's family had a younger infant, as well as the Shell family.Emma was probably helping to care for the children.Age was listed as 10, born in Arkansas.
Changing her parents birth locations has not produced any hints from Ancestry.I'm still at a standstill on her.Any help will be appreciated.Jan
