Milton was a Methodist Episcopal minister. He was in Santa Cruz in 1880, then Modesto, then Sacramento in 1892. He went from there to San Jose, then in 1902 he decided to be an undertaker rather than a minister, due to a chronic throat problem.
I guess that didn't take, because he wound up in Oakland, as another M/E minister. He got a Doctor of Divinity degree from Syracuse University.
