There are 4 people named Ann Bell, born in Georgia 1930-1932, on the 1940 census. There are 3 people with the name Mary Bell. Both times I looked at whites, and excluded the ones that gave a different middle initial than M.or A.
There is an Ann M. Bell, b 1931, in Griffin, Spaulding, GA, but I don't know if that's her.
The Duke University yearbooks are online; I looked at 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, and 1954 and there isn't anybody named Ann Bell or Mary Bell in those years. http://archive.org/stream/chanticleerseria1951duke#page/n5/mode/2uphttp://archive.org/stream/chanticleerseria1951duke#page/n5/mode/2up This will give you an idea of where to look.
It was very common in those days for both the mother and the adoption agencies to falsify information, to make the babies more attractive and adoptable and to protect the mothers' identities. I have helped other adoptees, along with others on here, and what was told to the adopted parents usually isn't anywhere near the truth.
