SOLDIERS' HOME, Aug 19. -- While walking on the track of the Los Ange- les-Pacific Railroad about 8 o'clock last evening, Charles White, a member of Co. F of the Home, was struck by a car and so injured that he died a few hours later.
The accident occurred about a mile east of Sawtelle, to which place the injured man was taken, and conveyed by ambulance to the Home hospital, where he expired at about 4 o'clock this morning.
Frank Morris of Co. F was a com- panion in the fatal walk.He says they had just stepped off the track that one car might pass, and did not calculate on one immediately follow- ing, which ran upon White.Morris saw White's danger and reached to clutch him, but too late.
Charles White served in the United States Navy during the Civil War, and was admitted to the Home in 1893. He was a native of New Zealand, and aged 60.The records state that he was unmarried and leaves no relative.
