I can certainly see where the Rose name has caused you some trouble.I am also having difficulty finding anything. Thanks to your great detective work though, I was able to locate an obituary that should help you out.This is from the Oakland Tribune, 25 August 1953:
"Last Rites for Sgt. Henry Rose
A Requiem High Mass was offered today in St. Augustine's Church for Sgt. Henry Thomas Rose, 52, of the Oakland Police Department, who died of a heart ailment Saturday in a local hospital.
Sergeant Rose, a native of Oakland, was a member of the force for 23 years.At the time of his death he was serving with the vice squad.He lived at 599 62nd Street.
The officer was a member of the Widows and Orphans' Association, the International Footprinters' Association and Le Society De Camaraderie.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Violet Rose; two children, Patrolman Henry Rose Jr. of the Oakland Police Department and Mrs. Jeanne Lois Duncan of Concord; a brother, William A. Rose of El Cerrito; a sister, Mrs. Elsie McGill of Fresno, and three grandchildren.
Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, San Pablo.The Rosary was recited last night in the Grant Miller Mortuary."
I do not live too far away from San Pablo, and when the weather is more cooperative (it's very hot!), I'll be glad to go and take a tombstone picture for you.In the meantime, I'll keep searching through the newspapers.If I find anything, I'll post it here.
