YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!After going back thru my records of Hancock County, I made note there was a Richard Welsh and in my first years of Welch research, I thought maybe this was Susanna's father but later found her parents were John and Elizabeth. Totally forgot about there being a Richard right next door in Hancock County.
I know John was born in MD (abt 1797) but relocated to Kentucky as a young child; making this very probable that HIS son (Richard) would have been born in Kentucky before the family relocated to Hancock Co., Ill. by 1840.
WOW!I am so glad you saw my post and contacted me. You have found an unknown son of John and Elizabeth that I didn't know existed. Thank you so much.
Looking forward to the material you have on John. They were still in the 1855 State Census for Hancock County and relocated to Colusa Co. by 1860. John and Elizabeth probably died sometime after the 1870 census.
I found a Richard Welch listed in the 1878 a weekly Colusa newspaper and in the index for wills and probates of Colusa County which I will follow up on thanks to your most valuable information!! You said he died young and his wife remarried. Do you know what his wife's initial's stand for: "M. V."? A simple thank you just doesn't seem quite enough for what you found.
Do you wish to send your material via snail mail? I would be most happy to send $$ for copy and postage fees.
