MURDER at HUMBOLDT CITY -- The Humboldt river correspondent of the ‘Union’ says:
A most horrible and brutal murder was committed at Humboldt City, Oct. 27, being the first that has happened in these mines. The victim was a young man named SNEATH, formerly from Red Bluff; he bore a good character and was gentlemanly and courteous in all his transactions and dealings. However, he became somewhat dissipated while here, and was murdered in his own store on the morning of the 27th by a man named Frank ARCHER, who inflicted 5 or 6 fatal wounds upon his head with the edge of a shovel. I have not heard of a single circumstance tending to palliate the offense of the miserable and blood-thirsty ruffian who thus struck down and mangled his victim in cold blood.
