I am searching for information on John William Notten who was born about 1844 in Michigan. He enlisted into the Civil War on August 11, 1862 my source is Ancestry.com American Civil War Soldiers data base. His place of residence is Grass Lake, Michigan.
It is said that during the war he recieved a battle wound and never recovered. He was a prisoner of war that was held hostage in the Andersonville Prison. I have records showing that in 1863 a year after he enlisted he came to visit his sibling Caroline Notten Meyer at Millville, Shasta County, California.
John then returned to Michigan to marry. On December 22, 1869 at Washtenaw, Michigan he married Caroline Muesing born in Hanover. They supposedly came to California first living in Ventura where John William Notten struck oil on his property. In 1880 this couple is found living at Big Valley, Lassen County, California.
I have found a Land Record for John W. Notten on RootsWeb.com the date was January 20, 1880. I am searching for a full birth/death date of this couple and if they had any children which I doubt. I am also wondering where they are buried too. I descend through Caroline Notten who married Frederick Valentine Meyer Sr.
