Harry Lennart Wickstrom, age 71, passed away May 13, 1999 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a resident of Dana Point, California, and formerly of Arlington Heights and Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of the late Adolph and Marie Wickstrom of Chicago, Illinois.
He served with Distinction in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. Harry attended Michigan State University and graduated with honors in Electrical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. He was an Electrical Engineer for 40 years, and retired as Chief Engineer with Stewart-Warner Corporation in Chicago, Illinois in 1989. He was the author of six patents.
Harry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Muriel A. Wickstrom; his devoted children, Lorie R. (with spouse Gary) Hughes of Billings, Montana, Paul L. (with spouse Debbie) Wickstrom of Utica, Michigan, and Alan J. (with spouse Liz) Wickstrom of Dana Point, California; his six grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, and Amy Hughes, Stephen and Erica Wickstrom, and Julie Wickstrom; and two nephews, Daniel DePriest and Mark DePriest of Franklin, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving sister, Trudy DePriest.
Harry enjoyed family, sailing, fishing, bridge, golf, computer programming, swimming, walking, travel, John Wayne movies, and spy novels. His gentle soul and quiet strength will be greatly missed.
To commemorate his love of the sea, immediate family committed Harry to the Pacific Ocean in a private ceremony on May 17.Whenever you see the ocean or hear the surf, know that Harry is there.
