It is believed that the wives shown here are the same person and that the census reporter wrote the wrong name and never went back to correct/change it.
James was first married to #1 Ann UNKNOWN probably in New York. They had 5 children and Ann died.James placed the 5 children in the Shaker Home in Mercer County Kentucky in 1852 and sailed on The Brother Jonathon to California and never returned for the children, who spent 12 years with the Shakers (many records of them there and their activities).James arrived in San Francisco where he married again and had 2 children --- Ellen and James. This wife's name is still unknown. She died and James married Honorah Farrell in Michigan Bluff in 1858 and had 7 more children. James and honora were Catholic and were married by the Priest in Michigan Bluff.Efforts to see any records at the church have failed.
James was Sheriff of Placer County for 8 years. After leaving the Sheriff's office James served as the Night Lieutenant at Folsom Prison, Sacramento County, California
Of the 5 children from the first marriage four have connected and shared information.Of the other 9 children, descendants of only one has ever been located.Would like to make contact with any one related to this family. Would like to know James parents names and his siblings.
James came to USA when he was 18 years old with his father. They opened a tailor shop in NY and sent for the mother and siblings.Mr. McCormick was bitten by a rabid fox and died before the family arrived ---- this is from a short history written by a grandson's wife who was a school teacher in Texas in the 1890's.
Any help is appreciated and will gladly share/exchange.
