I am searching for information on the following family.
Parents: (this info is not confirmed)
John Ward, b. about 1833, KY, d. about 1896, CA
m. about 1877 to
Frances Unknown, b.about 1857, possibly CA or border area with Mexico, d.about 1897, CA.
She is possibly Native American. (There is a possibility he could be Native American also)
They had the following children: (this information is pretty solid)
Martha, b. Mar 1879, possibly in Campo, San Diego, CA d. about 1906, m.Jan 1897 in possibly Campo to Edwin Stokes, b.1865,AR d.1918,San Diego, CA.
(they had a son Victor Edwin, b. Aug 1902) They were present in the 1900 US Census in Campo.
John Ward, b.Dec 1880, possibly in Campo, d. Sept 1902, CA. He was also present in the 1900 US Census in Campo, living in home of Martha and Edwin Stokes.
Helen (Isabel), b.Apr 1893, possibly in Campo, d.Nov 1967 in Fresno, CA. She married in about 1915 to Charles J. Hulst from MN. She had 2 sets of twins--one born in 1916 and one in 1917. They either divorced or she became widowed. I have her present in 1910, 1920, and 1930 censuses, but not in the 1900 census with her siblings. The family I am researching descends through this line.
Teresa, b.Jun 1895, possibly in Campo, and m. about 1917 to Antino Espinoza. She is also present in the 1900 US Census in Campo. She is living in home of Martha and Edwin Stokes.
There is most likely ties to the Mission Indians(Kumeyaay) in Campo, San Diego, CA. What I have read about Campo also hints that there may be a tie to Texas and/or the soldiers sent from Texas to San Diego county, California.
I would like to find information about this family and confirmation of the relationship to Campo and Native American descendancy. As far as Native American ancestry, I am quite new at researching so any suggestions would help. The family I am researching has very obvious Native American characteristics.
