Owens - San Diego, about 1870 to 1886
Does anyone have any idea how to locate an "Owens" family that reportedly owned a newspaper in San Diego around 1870-1886?
My mother's father, James Richard Saunders reported was raised in a Catholic Orphanage. His mother had apparently remarried to someone named "Owens" who owned a newspaper.(perhaps she was never married to a Saunders, and had the son out of wedlock, I don't know).
I can only estimate my grandfather's age from that of his wife who was born in 1869.I'm supposing he was 1-5 years older than she was. They m. in 1886 in Randolph Co., AR and she died in about 1896, was buried on Christmas day and he died a month later of pneumonia.
Since my mother was only about 8 years old when she lost her parents, she didn't have much knowledge about her father.A couple of years later she was reunited with her mothers father who (with his 3rd wife) raised her and her little sister.
I will appreciate any assistance. If you have a url to find census records online for that area and time, I'll appreciate having them.
