Ames Daily Tribune 10/9/1944 abstracted Miles Talks to Two Iowa Winners of Legion of Merit
With the 5th Army in Italy--Colonel Gillette, a Regular Army officer, was graduated from Des Moines College in 1916, joined the Third Iowa Reg of the Iowa National Guard, fought in the Mexican War. After war declared 4/6/1917, served in the 34th Division.
One of the first Army motion picture men and had much to do with producing Army training pictures. As assistant Signal Corps officer in charge of the pictorial service with the Fifth Army, he won his medal for exceptionally meritorious conduct in performence of outstanding services in Italy in the period 8/8/1943 to 6/15/1944. He is now in charge of the Army pictorial service of the Allied Headquarters. Mrs. Jackson is at Jackson Heights, NY but he is credited to IA.
