SLO County Genealogical Society Hosts Open House at SLO City-County Library
Anyone interested in learning more about their family’s history is urged to attend an open house co-sponsored by the San Luis Obispo City-County Library and San Luis Obispo County Genealogical Society. This free event takes place Thursday, June 5, 2008, from 10am to 3pm on the second floor of the San Luis Obispo City-County Library, 995 Palm St., San Luis Obispo.
The SLO County Genealogical Society recently moved its research library to the second floor of the San Luis Obispo City public library. The Open House is aimed at demonstrating the many genealogical resources available to the public. The event will include:
• Guided tours of library resources including records, books and maps. • Experienced researchers on hand to answer questions. • Demonstrations of new genealogy databases: “Ancestry Library Edition,” available only at the library, contains searchable databases of more than five billion records including historical books, photos, maps and census records, primarily from the United States, England and Canada; “HeritageQuest” combines digital, searchable images of U.S. federal census records with the digitalized version of the popular UMI Genealogy & Local History collection and other valuable content. • Displays of projects by society members including family history books, photo displays, family trees and ancestor stories to inspire your own genealogy project. • Refreshments.
Volunteers, who are experienced researchers, will also be on hand three days a week to assist the public in searching for their families. For a list of the library holdings, visit:http://kcbx.net/~slogenhttp://kcbx.net/~slogen.
