In Dottie Smith's book "The Dictionary of Early Shasta County History" 2nd Edition she lists a James McNeill being a Section boss for the Central Pacific Railroad at Redding in 1881. But that is the only information I have found.
There are some Burke's listed in the same book too. Here they are: B.W. Burke Owned and operated a saddle and harness shop on Main Street in Anderson in 1881. The seconed BURKE listed is: Harry Burke who owned a Pioneer stage driver during the 1850's.
Just wondering if these were part of your BURKES as well. I hoped I helped out a bit. This information is found in the same book too.
