I can help you out a little since your clue (son Day) helped me ...
In 1860 Day Beebe is listed on the census in Dewitt Twp, Clinton Co IA age 26 laborer b PA; wife's name looks like Avis E age 23 b NY ;Effey C 1 b IA ; Delfin 8 b IA; also in household are David Eggleston 24 laborer b NY and William C Lakey 28? b NY.
I really was looking for his FATHER on the census, but this helped me.
I'm working on a book about the "Graybeards", an Iowa Civil War unit comprised of men over 40 who enlisted to do garrison duty and other non-combat functions. Guess who joined up?
Absalom Beebe. Age 60. Residence DeWitt, nativity New York. Enlisted Oct. 4, 1862. Mustered Nov. 14, 1862. Discharged for disability May 7, 1863, St. Louis, Mo.
Apparently by 1862 he had hooked up with Day over in Dewitt and decided to join up.
I could really use some background info on this Absalom Beebe --wife, children, etc for the book.
