Columbus "Toots" Cooksey, 82, of Ceres died Sunday at Memorial Medical Center, Modesto.
Mr. Cooksey was a native of Oklahoma. He lived in Ceres 47 years. He was an agricultural laborer.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Ceres Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Ceres chapel of Franklin & Downs.
That obit was so skimpy I looked him up for you on the census.

(I'd wager 3:1 that the above is him, hiding out under his initials, but I've lost bets before. The initials, birth years and counties fit, but . . . )

Notes I try to copy into the bottom of every obit I look up:
The Ceres Cemetery and Franklin & Downs are both still in business.
will have their phone book listings.
I will send you the paper copy printed from the microfilm if you send me your street address privately.
I'm not related, nor did I know the family. I look these obits up to repay people who looked things up for me, by "paying it forward". If you have the time and inclination, you can look up an obit in your county for someone too.
