You were right. Johanna died in Nebraska, which is why she wasn't on the California Death Index. She was on the SSDI, http://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgihttp://ssdi.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/ssdi.cgi Johanna had an obit and a funeral notice in the Bee. Frank has an obit too, but the 1947 microfilm was out for repair. The librarian is going to call me when they get it back. Here is Johanna:

========================================== Notes I put on all of these, if I remember:
Salas Brothers are still in business. You could look them up in an on-line phone book and write or call. They may have more information.
I will send you the microfilm print-out if you send me your address privately.
If you have the inclination and ability, you can repay the favor by looking up an obituary for someone who posted a request on the GenForum page for your county. I do these to repay a small regiment of people who have helped me.
