My grandparents moved to Exeter, Tulare County in about 1910. While there my grandfather was the founding chief of the Exeter Volunteer Fire Department (established June 25, 1911). He was still there until at least Ocober 1913 as evidenced by his name engraved on a trophy for the fireman's hose hauling race at the County Fair in Hanford.I believe he probably stayed there until 1916 or 1917 because he appears to have been among the men called up from the 2nd Regiment of the California National Guard in June 1916 to serve with genetral Pershing (released back to civilian life in Novemver 1916) to help protect the US border from Pancho Villa and his cohorts. By 1918 he had moved on to Arizona withou my grandmother or father.I believe that they stayed in Exeter until 1919 or 1920. I probably need to visit the Exeter library again to view micro films of the Exeter Sun but I welcome any information that anyobne can provide.
