Sherryl, thanks for checking and responding to the query. These Martins are not connected to my knowledge. I have since found out that E. Hall Martin, 1818-1851, was born in Cincinatti to John and Mary Martin and moved to San Francisco about 1849 and is considered a Gold Rush painter. I found him on the 1850 Sacramento census and it was reported that he died of cholera near Onion Valley (do you know of this location?)15 miles west of Downieville (Sierra County was Yuba County up until 1852)while on a sketching trip, according to sources. His paintings of the Gold Rush have been on exhibit at the Oakland Museum. He was a friend of my cousin's family and had painted pictures of her ancestors early in his career. I am trying to help my cousin find out as much as possible about him and his life. I appreciate your response.
