My maternal grandmother was Virgie Elizabeth Varns (b. 8 Sep 1891,Macon, Co., MO; d. 17 Jun 1974, Claremore, Rogers Co., OK). I’m looking for information about the Varns family.
Virgie Elizabeth was the daughter of Charles W. Varns (b. 28 Dec 1856, d. 8 Feb 1929) and Sarah Frances “Fannie” Richardson (b. 28 Sep 1862, d. 20 Dec 1958). They were married on 14 Sep 1879 in Macon Co., MO. The couple reportedly eloped on horseback when Fannie was 16 years old. They are known to have lived in rural Macon Co., MO during the late 1920s.
In addition to their only daughter, Virgie Elizabeth, Charles and Fannie had five sons: John, Frank, Clarence Charles, David and Bob.
I know little about my maternal grandmother’s brothers.Clarence Charles and David moved to Center, Alamosa Co., CO where David reportedly ran a dry goods store. Clarence Charles reportedly married a woman whose maiden name was Rossie. They had a daughter named Lois. She subsequently married a man whose surname is Harris and was a doctor.
Virgie Elizabeth married my grandfather, James Otis McQuary, on11 Dec 1910, probably in Macon Co., MO. They had five children, the oldest of whom was my father, Charles Virgil (20 Sep 1911 - 26 Dec 1999). All five were born in rural Macon Co., MO.
Any additional information you can provide about my Varns relatives will be appreciated.
