Charles Curtis Smith came to Ft. Scott, Kansas when he was 10 and became ill; since he didn’t improve he traveled with the Samuel Noblett family to Denver in 1864.

SMITH, PIONEER, DIED LATE THURSDAY - Charles Curtis Smith, pioneer Boulder county resident, died late Thursday afternoon and his body was taken from a Boulder institution to Longmont.Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Monday at Shaw’s chapel.Burial will be beside Mrs. Smith, the former Mathilde Steele, who died May 15, last year.
Mr. Smith was born in Walworth county, Wisconsin, Dec 18, 1849.He came to Colorado for his health in 1865.He arrived in Denver on the Fourth of July of 1865.He worked for Jim and Sam Arbuthnot, northeast of Boulder, hauling logs for a number of years.He was prominent in the mining activities of Ward and other Boulder county mining camps.
He is survived by nine children:Mrs. Maude White, of Ft. Morgan; Mrs. Emma White, of Goodrich; Mrs. Maida Geer, of Longmont; Robert Smith, of Denver; Elbert Smith, of Jamestown; Mrs. Ina Higdon, of Boulder; Mrs. Ada Daniels, of Boulder, and Mrs. Edward Smith, Waco, Calif.His descendants number forty-three grandchildren, twenty-two great-great-grand children, and six great-great-grandchildren.
