OBIT HEADLINE - Howard Winsor, 86, died September 9. As his body has been donated to Science Care, there will be no funeral service for Howard Winsor, 86, Rocky Ford.He died in his sleep at his home Sept. 9, 2006.He was born Dec. 20, 1919 in Waco NE to Harry Howard Winsor and Gertrude Ellen Winsor.Following graduation in 1937, he worked for the bank in Waco.In 1940 Mr. Winsor moved to Manzanola (CO) and worked in the insurance agency in the Beatty Bank where he met Betty Irene Gobin, who worked in Belle Daring's Insurance Agency in Rocky Ford (CO).On July 16, 1944, they married and two years later, on Jan. 1, 1946, purchased the Daring agency which was later called Winsor Agency.On April 1, 1985, the couple sold to Van Dyk Insurance Agency.Mr. Winsor's goal when he came to Colorado was to be able to fly back to Nebraska, so he obtained his pilot's license and owned a series of planes.He loved to travel, not only in his private plane, but also through Ports Of Call. He spent 21 years working on genealogy following his retirement.He was a 33rd degree Mason; a former Rotarian, and a Paul Harris Fellow; B.P.O.E. (Elks) #1147; and at one time a member of the Rocky Ford Archelocical Society, and Flying Farmers.In 1972 he won the Internation Chili Society Colorado State and World Championship.He is survived by his wife Betty; three nieces, and one nephew who live in Illinois.His parents and half sister preceded him in death.The family rquests no flowers or food.
