Carol, Thank you for your message and interest.I and my older son have been working on the families histories for the past six months. We have traced our Rivers line back into Vermont, then to Quebec and then back to several provinces of France. And also back to England, and Ireland, and Germany.
They are connected as follows:
Rivers: Thouvelin/Thouvenin/Touvelin+Renard La Riviere Joyal/Moral/Vanasse/LePire, Danis, Domine-St Sauveur. Also Moorhouse and McCaughey We are related to the Garfields: the Hughes and the Lester Frenchand Graff families are related through marriages with three Garfield sisters. And, I am also related to the Lester French family through the marriage of his daughter, Velma to my Uncle Arthur William Rivers. The French family we traced back to a Robert French who married an Ida Goodrich in Vermont. The Graff family also married into the Schwerdtfeger family (translates as Sword Maker) who come came to the U.S. in 1875 from Germany in 1875. Lester French and family lived in Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The Rivers connection to Quebec was complicated by one of the Thouvelin La Rivieres emigrating to Vermont in the 1840s. Sometime soon after that, he anglicized his name and went by both Jack and John Rivers. His son, Basil, preferred to go by his baptismal name of Paschal, but he as well used the name Rivers in Vermont. Let me know if any of the above helps you. If so, I can send you a master file via email.
