Hi, my name is Emily ZAMBRELLO and I'm seeking any information that may be available about my paternal great-great-grandmother, born Cora Belle POPPLE, and perhaps of Irish decent. She married three times, first to my great-great-grandfather William George SMITH (m. 29 Feb 1892 in Manchester, CT), second to George MANIERRE (m. 1903), and third to Thomas J. CONNOR (m. date unknown), so she may appear under any of these surnames. I know she was born on or around 02 Jul 1877 in South Coventry, CT, died on 10 Jul 1929 in Bloomfield, CT, and was buried on 11 Jul 1929 in East Cemetery, Manchester, CT, perhaps in the same plot as her first husband.
She may appear in newspapers in the Manchester, CT area around (March?) of 1903, when SMITH attempted to murder her in their home immediately after being released from prison on a thirty-day sentence for domestic abuse. He died in Wethersfield State Prison on 28 Dec 1907.
I'm particularly interested in what her nationality may have been, because although I've found that the name POPPLE is French and English, and family stories tell me that she was Irish, I have no confirmation on her personal ethnic background. Her parents were Thomas W. D. POPPLE (b. Rhode Island?) and Sarah Jane KEARNS (b. New York?), and she had four siblings: Martha, George, William, and Annie, none of whom I have any further information about. POPPLE had six children, William George SMITH, Jr (my great-grandfather), Daisy Belle, Charles Thomas, Frederick Robert, Martha Jane, and Gertrude May.
I received all of this information from my great uncle, Thomas MCGANN, who gave me his books of his extensive research on the SMITH (Irish) and PATTY (Czech, German) sides of my family.
Any information, especially about her parents and nationality, would be greatly appreciated!
