Brandt,
Connecticut state law did not require death records until 1897. Hartford's records go back to 1852, so death records should exist from 1880s. However, early death records tend not to look like the modern version of the form. You may only get a death date. There's no easy way to tell what Hartford's forms might have looked like. Pre-1897, the records vary by town and even by town clerk.To order the record, you'll need to contact the Hartford Bureau of Vital Records (http://www.hartford.gov/government/Town&CityClerk/Vital%20Records/Vital%20Records.htm).
