Rose 93 Army Veteran diesGeorge Ullshoeffer Rose 93 veteran of the Army and a retired Government worker, died yesterday at the Soldier’s Home Hospital.Mr. Rose was born in New York where he married Emily Delaney Rose on January 25, 1863.Their children were Crete, Emily, Edwin, Joseph, Fred, Herbert and the late George U. Jr and Irwin L. Rose.He enlisted in the Army as a hospital steward in 1864 but because of his penmanship was detailed at a record clerk on the staff of Gen. Otis at Washington.Later he was secretary to James A. Garfield for 13 years pervious to Garfield’s election to the Presidency.He also service on the stenographic corps at theCapitol and left that position to become assistant appointment clerk of the Treasury from which he retired several years ago.He was a member of Burnside Post Grand Army of the Republic and Lafayette Masonic Lodge.Funeral services will be held at the Table Funeral Home 4217 Ninth St NW, Monday at 2pm.Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery.Washington Post , March 21, 1936, pg 5
