Does someone who is familiar with researching in the Miami, Dade County area know if there is a City Directory for the 1940' through 1950's? The 1940 census finds our ancestor Edward VAN CLEEF (have to assume it is him, all confirm-able fields match: b. 1899 Holland, lived NY, NY in 1935, naturalized citizen.) He is listed as a 'tavern keeper' but occupations can change frequently. Sometimes spelled VANCLEEF.
(The tavern was near the Hialeah Race track, I presume, because their home was.)
What was most surprising was the 'supposed' wife (looks like) Ana Van Cleef, 24, b. NJ, and 1 year old daughter, Julie??, guessing it is Julieann, although it looks like 'Julieun.' She was born in Florida.
Our Edward Van Cleef was actually still married to someone else (but separated) until a few years later, so a marriage record may not actually exist, but surely a birth record would exist for little Julieann (or similar name) in 1939?
I have found no other reference to either of the two females. OUR Edward Van Cleef ends up in Tift County Georgia by his death in 1979, by then married to a woman named Gertrude.
If Julieann is still living, she MAY have half brothers she didn't know about.
