John Wellington McDonald is buried in Gadsden County.I would like to identify any living descendants, and to confirm or rule out that this John is a son of Martha Rowe and Hiram McDonald who were married in Jackson County FL I believe the year was 1867.
Martha Rowe was a dtr of Stephen Hiram Rowe 1802-1881 and Nancy Bird 1805?-1861; latter couple (Stephen & Nancy) married in Hancock Co., GA 1824, in 1830 Census there with 3 children who prob. died young; also in Gadsden Co. Census (1850) and in Jackson County FL (1860 Census).Martha's sister Mary E. Rowe 1841-1882 m. Wm. Saml. Pope 1824-1904, this Wm. Pope son of Wm. Stuart (I) Pope 1789-1837, who owned quite a lot of land in Jackson and Gadsden Counties.Wm. Stuart I's sister, Elizabeth Pope b. abt. 1792, married John (I) Tanner 1790-1826.Their son, John II Tanner 1823-after 1870, married Anne Yonge, of a prominent Gadsden Co. family.John II was a lawyer, farmer, and Captain of Co. F, 11th Fla. Vol. Inf. CSA.His son and namesake John III 1848?-1865 was a private in same command and died in Yankee captivity.
Hope to find some cousins.I am descended from Mary and William Samuel, they were my great-grandparents (given time frame one would expect they would be my 2d great-grandparents at least, but their son my grandfather William Stuart II Pope married only at the age of fifty).
