Leroy S. Pope, c. 1820s
My lineal POPE forebears were amongst earliest white settlers in Jackson Co. from about 1820, notably William Stuart Pope 1789-1837 and his brother John M. Pope.

William Stuart and John M. Pope's parents were Samuel Pope (Jr.) b. abt. 1752 Craven Co., NC d. Barnwell Dist. SC 1818 and wife Margaret _____ b. abt. 1765 d. Savannah GA 1819.
Federal land patents for Gadsden Co. show a Leroy S. Pope (as well as William S., presumably William Stuart, who had a number of tracts in Jackson Co. as well).
If anyone has info concerning possible -- I'd have to say likely -- family relationship between Leroy S. Pope who was in Gadsden Co. in the 1820s and my Jackson Co. POPES, I'd love to hear from them.
Thanks and best regards.
