I was born in Desoto county in 1937, and my grandfather was born in 1879 near where Ona is now located. A lot of old-time settlers are buried at the New Zion Baptist church cemetary on state road 64 at Horse creek. I am sure I have heard my grandfather speak of some Bryans, or possibly Bryants, in that area. I also knew a Ralph Bryant who was born in Bowling Green. His family came to the area from KY after the civil war. The best reference I have found for the old Manatee county area, which included Hardee and Desoto, is "The Edge of Wilderness" written by Jane Mathews and published by Caprene Press of Tulsa OK. You can probably find a copy at the Bradenton or Sarasota libraries. Good luck with your search.
